Quartet No. 2|
The Arcadia's appearance at Nicholas Yonge in November 2015 was so successful that we re-engaged them forthwith and are delighted that they are able to play for us again this season. Winners of the 2014 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, the 2012 Wigmore Hall London International String Quartet Competition, the 2011 Almere International Chamber Music Competition in 2011 and the International Chamber Music Competition Hamburg in 2009, the Arcadia Quartet has established itself as a leading string quartet of their generation.
Formed in 2006 while students at the ‘Gheorghe Dima’ Music Academy in Romania, the quartet has performed in major concert halls across the world including Hungary, Poland, Germany, France, Portugal, The Netherlands, Canada, the UK and China. Of its recording of the two Janacek quartets The Sunday Times wrote of ‘a beauty that pierces the heart’ and that ‘both works are played with searing intensity by the fine young Romanian quartet’.
'Awe-inspiring and infinitely moving... only one or two ensembles in the world plumb such depths.' The Strad, Nov 2010
Note: At 6.45 pm there will be a pre-concert talk. Details here.
