Formed by four French students in Berlin in 2016, in order to play a concert in Corsica that never happened, the Quatuor Agate shortly afterwards founded their own Corsican festival and have achieved international distinction. In 2021 they won the YCAT auditions and in 2023 were named ECHO Rising Stars, embarking on a tour of Europe’s major concert halls for the 24/25 season. They are named after Agathe von Siebold, Brahms' second love and dedicatee of his second string sextet. Their love of Brahms is apparent in their debut 2024 album of his complete string quartets; for us they are joined by Jonathan Leibovitz for Brahms' glorious clarinet quintet.
